Holly Humberstone’s “I would die 4 U” + 5 awesome new covers to save your day
OK. By now, probably all my readers are aware of my fanaticism for the English Holly Humberstone (including herself, sorry Hol). It’s just that some time ago I wanted to highlight a cover she did of Prince that certainly went unnoticed amid an original production increasingly exquisite and celebrated. The cover in question is of “I would die for you” and the curious thing is that at the same time she makes a modern reinterpretation of all the sensuality of Prince’s work, she manages to make the song look like what she has written: extremely personal.
I also separated for you some unusual covers – others not so much – of rock, hard rock and indie classics that caught my attention lately, such as the introspective (!) covers of “Stand By Me” and “All Along The Watchtower”. Finally, a bonus Brazilian music by my São Paulo partner Lara Aufranc, an exciting retelling of a classic by Jards Macalé that I’m sure everyone will enjoy.
Lonely Gimmick – “All Along the watchtower” – (Jimi Hendrix)
Nush Unbrushed – “Stand by me” (Ben E. King)
Break Me Down – “Break in” (Halestorm)
The Forbearant – “Wendy & Betsy” (Menwithoutyou)
Rebounder – “Young Folks” (Peter Bjorn & John)
Bonus: Lara Aufranc – “Soluços” (Jards Macalé)
