Bonze: Love is all he needs
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the first thing that drew me to Bonze‘s new single was the artwork. Enigmatic and dark, the single “Mercedes” features a beautiful woman with a sunmark, in makeup and probably dancing. One of those freeze frames that stay in your memory forever, eventually whipping your heart. Could this be the Mercedes that Bonze melts for in the lyrics, to the point of wanting to grow old by her side? Potential she certainly would have.
And as if this attack of good taste on the single’s cover wasn’t enough, the song also doesn’t fall behind in the sense of destroying our broken hearts. With an opening riff that is very reminiscent of “Where The Streets have no Name” by U2, Bonze already puts us in the necessary vibe for the following minutes of an irresistible melody, which touches the depths of the soul, especially of the man who allows a beauty like Mercedes to escape his life.
With an ideal mix between organic and electronic instruments, Bonze still graces us with an amazing vocal, which also reminds Dave Gahan, frontman of Depeche Mode, one of the greatest bands of our time (as you should know). Touches of “But not tonight” are easily identifiable, though Bonze laces it all with the modernity offered by the full scope of electro-pop bands like M83, creating an immediate hit on the dance floor.
I always say that the magic of electronic music is that it speaks for itself, not requiring its creator to expose himself on the front line. So it is with Bonze, a low-profile artist who prefers to pour all his energy into a range of precious songs, being each of his works some kind of declaration of love. Be it love for the mysterious Mercedes, for yourself, or finally for life. What Bonze’s music brings us is nothing more than that: love. Do you need anything else?
