Camens: a guitar band to save the world
It’s great to be able to close the year 2022 stating that there’s a legitimate guitar band out there just waiting for its turn to break out all over the world. In a blog dominated – not that I’m complaining – by female empowerment, the British Camens arrive to show that there is still a place for guitar sounds (by the way, they never left my heart).
Just as The Killers, coming from the Las Vegas desert, came to renew rock and roll in the early 2000s, Camens, coming from the North-West ( Stoke-On-Trent city precisely), are already renewing the style in the UK, participating in as many festivals as they can and sharing the stage with a lot of good people.
The single “I concede to worrying”, for example, shows all the strength of the performance and the quality of the composition of the quartet, which does not shy away from using striking backing vocals and, mainly, guitars, many layers of guitars that dialogue with each other. But I would highlight, in addition to the guitars, of course, the quality of the vocalist, mr. Scott Powell. His timbre is unmistakable and the energy he gives us is immediate.
The track, which is the third to be released before the full album sees the light of day, is described by the band as a kind of wake-up call for people who live for money without stopping to enjoy life: “So many people live in perpetual worry now. Working full time for a wage that just about covers bills, leaving them with no real life or time to grow, relax, or invest in themselves or their families”.
Let’s enjoy Camens instead.
