Rebbeca Anderson and the way music should be

I don’t believe in coincidences. That’s why the fact that I’m doing this review on Easter Sunday, of two songs that flirts with the so-called “Christian” style (which makes me nauseous) means something more to me.
Let’s get to the point. “In the beginning“, released by the refined singer-songwriter Rebecca Anderson, is simply everything I needed to hear on a day like this (not to mention her latest single “Forever Grateful“, almost a gospel anthem of sorts).
Let me explain. Usually, songs written from an optimistic point of view, with the clear objective of improving our mood, are… boring. A good part of them are even very poorly executed, since aesthetics are not even remotely a priority.
But Rebecca manages to combine simple yet dense lyrics with ultra-modern beats, transforming the listening experience into something that is close to a tasting of diverse musical genres, such as alt.pop, dance, R/B and, of course, gospel.
In a world dominated by the immediacy of pop music, with singers produced every minute by the music industry, it is a relief to know that there are also artists with Rebecca’s experience, without rushing or anxiety, making music, with a capital M, in their own time.
Good taste is the order of the day here, starting with the singles’ covers, so delicately produced that they become a preview of what is to come and the way music should be.
